TIMESLIPS

TimeSlips is a group storytelling process which marks a fundamental shift away from focusing on memory and reminiscence toward encouraging people with memory loss to exercise their imaginations and creativity.

TimeSlips

Training-As the TimeSlips Regional Training Base for the Carolinas, the CAN-NC coordinates educational workshops and regional training sessions for professionals in the aging field throughout North and South Carolina twice annually. On-site training is also available.

All of our trainers are certified and are experienced program facilitators, for we believe that active, experienced facilitators make the best trainers.

TimeSlips is an innovative and effective group storytelling method that helps people with dementia reaffirm their humanity and connect with staff, family and friends. The method replaces the pressure to remember with the encouragement to imagine. Facilitators guide the storytelling session by asking open-ended questions, listening intently, writing down all responses, and weaving them together by repeating the story as it grows. The method values the unique voice of individual participants, their heritage, perspective, and present level of ability. This program is stimulating and fun, creating an environment where all responses are accepted and elders feel safe to participate.

To schedule a training at your site and for price information contact Executive Director Lia Miller at lia@cca-nc.org or 336-253-0856.

Facilitation-CAN-NC provides TimeSlips sessions in nursing homes, assisted livings, and adult day care centers in the Piedmont Triad area of North Carolina.. Nine to twelve participants meet once weekly for ten weeks or longer. Usually, the ten-week session ends with a celebration during which the storytellers receive a book of their stories to share with the staff and loved ones in attendance. .
